The Mindset Podcast – Episode 9
Put your oxygen mask on first! You’ve heard this on every flight you’ve ever taken.
The reason for this statement to be so important is that you can’t help anyone if you don’t help yourself first.
In the ninth episode of The Mindest Podcast, hosts Greg and Steven talk about the crucial value of self-care and a morning routine that supports your goals.
No matter how much work you need to get done in a day, remember that you can’t give what you don’t have and you can’t pour from an empty cup. If you’re in a leadership position, or somebody’s looking up to you, you’ve got to prioritize your self-care. If you’re tired and rundown all the time, you won’t be able to provide value to the people around you.
Both Greg and Steven are business owners and share that they have a non-negotiable morning routine that allows them to put themselves first before taking care of anything else.
Greg spends 30 minutes to an hour every morning reading the Bible and filling in a template with wins and lessons from the previous day. He also writes down his top 3 priorities for the day and only then he proceeds to get some work stuff done. The mid-morning is blocked for his training session with his gym partner, and after that, he continues with the rest of the working day.
Remember that you are what you do on a regular basis. You have to block time for yourself first thing in the morning, or the day will probably take that opportunity from you.
Steven starts his day with 30 minutes of cardio in the office before anyone else gets there. The first 10 minutes he dedicates to a brain dump exercise, where he types on his phone everything he needs to get done this day. The other 20 minutes he spends looking at his vision board, thinking about the life he wants to have.
He says that these 20 minutes of visualization energize him and give him purpose. All the brain dump ideas now have fuel and fire behind them. After the cardio session, he prioritizes his tasks and starts working on them, one after the other.
This helps him stay reactive in a positive way and ready to attack any problems that might occur.
It’s really crazy what 30 minutes can do for you if you use them right! 30 minutes might not sound as much, but if you take that 30 minutes over two years, it’s going to make a big difference in your life and the people around you.
As Brain Cain says “If you’re juiceless, you’re useless and if you’re juiceful, you’re useful!”.
Make sure you put your oxygen mask on first and then you’ll be unstoppable and ready to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals.
Time is the ultimate equalizer and we all have 24 hours a day. Spend your time wisely because it’s your most valuable asset!
