Viral TikTok Trend ‘The Lion Diet’ Called a ‘Cure-All’ – But is it Safe?
As we embark on a new year, many people have set goals to lose weight, get fit, and lead a healthier lifestyle. However, with so many diet fads and trends, it can be difficult to know which ones are safe and effective, and which ones should be avoided.
The latest fad in the health and wellness world is The Lion Diet, which has gone viral on TikTok as a solution to “cure-all”. The diet advocates eating only meat, salt, and water. While the simplicity of it may be tempting, it begs the question: is it truly a safe and sustainable approach to nutrition?
FOX News Radio asked Greg McCoy, a healthy lifestyle expert, coach, and owner of Hidden Gym, to share his thoughts on The Lion Diet. In this blog post, we’ll explore the pros, cons, and potential risks of the diet.
According to Greg, the appeal of the Lion Diet lies in how easy it is to follow. Instead of worrying about calorie counting and macronutrient ratios, you simply eat meat. However, this extreme approach can be dangerous, and the elimination of fruits and vegetables means you’ll quickly become deficient in many vitamins and minerals. Additionally, the lack of fiber in the diet can lead to gut issues and increased risk of heart disease, as fiber helps to lower cholesterol levels.
Greg advised that while it’s understandable to want to make a change at the start of the year, we need to view these changes as lifestyle changes and not quick fixes. He also cautioned against putting too much stock in miracle claims, such as someone having the best night’s sleep ever after just one day on the Lion Diet.
While the latest diet trends always promise massive results, it’s important to prioritize our long-term health and well-being. Losing weight quickly does not mean keeping that weight off, or looking confident, toned and alethic.
Instead of wasting time and energy on a fad that will do more harm than good, consider making sustainable changes to your diet and lifestyle that you can maintain over time. Talk to a qualified healthcare professional, coach or nutritionist for advice tailored to your specific needs and goals.
